Community News and Announcements
Nishimachi International School holds a variety of community service projects annually. In this holiday season, students and teachers are engaged in the following projects as organizers and/or volunteers. We are proud of our community members who are willing to contribute to support those who are less fortunate.
(1) Leftover Candy Drive
Thank you for donating candies for the orphanage! We were able to send boxes of candies that weigh over 50kg to the orphanage "Nonohana" in Chiba. The fifty-two children there will be happy to be able to eat rare international candies, and the orphanage will be able to use their snacks budget for other purposes. Again, thank you very much for your generous support! (Grade 8: Nanami, Otoha, and Cyurina)
(2) Grade 8 Clothes & Household Items Drive for Tohoku (Nov. 16–23)
Ohta-sensei, Grade 8 students and parents have received an overwhelming amount of response to this drive. We are shipping over 100 boxes of clothes and household goods to Tohoku. Thank you!
(3) OGA for Aid Card Campaign
In previous years, we have supported OGA for Aid by collecting toys to be given as presents at OGA's annual Christmas party for tsunami/earthquake survivors in Tohoku. This year, OGA is not asking for toys; instead, they are asking students to make Christmas/holiday cards to be sent to children in Tohoku, and those children in turn will send cards to earthquake survivors in Nepal.
(4) OGA for AID Christmas Party in Minamisanriku
Members of the Nishimachi community have been invited to attend OGA's Christmas party in Minamisanriku on Sunday, December 13 and to participate in a two-day guided visit of Minamisanriku and Matsushima.
Nishimachi will be sponsoring the Christmas party by donating a sum of 100,000 yen to cover some of the expenses of putting on the party.
